- Inquiry activity: the Black Box lab

Homework: Due Tuesday, August 30
- reflection on Ivory Billed Woodpecker story ( see Science in the News Assignment for reflection requirments)
- Black Box Lab questions
- Packet started on Tuesday in class ( dealing with hypotheses, variables, and replication) finished.

-disussed the role of hypothesis, variables (dependent, independent)

Homework: due Friday, August 26
- rewrite design an experiment assignment. Include:
- set of observations made at home
- 3 questions based around those observations
- Write a hypothesis based on one of your questions (rememeber a hypothesis is a statement, testable, an explanation on trial, using if-then logic)
- Identify the dependent and independent variables.

How scientists conduct science through experimentation
- Activity: Why is replication in science important?
- Discussion
- Class notes (hypothesis, designing and constructing an experiment)

Homework: due Wednesday August 24
Design an experiment
1. Make a set of observations about something at home
2. Ask 3 questions based on your observations
3. Write a hypothesis based on one of your questions
4. Design an experiment to test your hypothesis
- identify the variables, what materials would you need
5. Describe how you would test your hypothesis

Read Chapter 1 in the text

If you have not gotten your book, make sure to stop buy the buisness office by Wednesday and purchase it!

Welcome to the 2005/6 Biology website.
Thursday, August 11, 2005 Today was an introduction to Biology class. We filled out info cards, set up folders, took pictures, reviewed the syllabus, and sent letters home to parents.

Homework assigned: -Letter to parents needs to signed by both parent and student along with parent information.
-Read Chapter 1 in Biology Text, be prepared to discuss on Wednesday
