Today we had the pleasure of having Joyce Trombeta join our class today to speak on her doctoral research regarding organ donation. Please look for the consent form to come in the mail, fill it out, and return it via the posted envelope to participate in her survey. Support a fellow scientist in their research!
Homework:
pg 224 Problem Solving and pg 225 9.1 Section Review due Monday
Extra Credit: Due Thursday, December 6th
Prepare a food dish where fermentation is involved to share with the class. Some suggestions include home baked bread, yogurt, cheese, kimchi, sauerkraut, etc.
For your extra credit you must:
- Bring in your food item for the class to sample on Thursday
- Include the recipe for your food item
- Include a one page typed paper explaining the history of your food, and the science behind your food (what organisms are doing the fermenting, what are the products of the fermentation, what observations did you make which preparing your food)

Light Independent Cycle
Do Now:
1. What is the role of water in the Light Dependent Reaction (LDR)?
2. Where in the LDR is NADPH produced and where does it go afterwards?
3. How are high energy electrons transported through the LDR?
Today in class we:
Reviewed the Light Dependent Reaction of photosynthesis
Discussed the Light Independent Reaction of photosynthesis
Reviewed for photosynthesis test
* See sidebar for photosynthesis review materials and internet tutorials
Homework due Tuesday:
pg 218: 11-14, 16-22
pg 219: Pick any 5 questions from the Critical Thinking section (use critical thinking skills to pick the best questions for your studying needs)
Use the Photosynthesis Study Goals sheet to study for Tuesdays test
** Bring a clean, empty soda bottle to class with you on Tuesday

Paper Chromatography Lab
Do Now:
Identify the parts of a plant that are responsible for photosynthesis: 1. Stomata, 2. Chloroplast, 3. Chlorophyll, 4. Thylakoid, 5. Grana, 6. Stroma
What are pigments and what role do they play in photosynthesis?
Today in class:
We discussed the photosynthetic equation
Began photosynthesis lab: paper chromatography
